This website represents my taste entirely; what I might do for you will represent your taste and serve your purposes. However, you may find some modest technical notes concerning this site of interest.

I have written the site entirely by hand, in HTML 4 and CSS; there is no JavaScript and there are no tables involved. I will add some PERL scripts soon. There is one iFrame, in which I have placed the slideshows of my photographs. The pages are extremely light and efficient and render well in all browsers--in the name of compatibility I unfortunately have had to forgo a number of truly pleasing and useful CSS effects that I wanted to use, but which Internet Explorer is incapable of rendering at this time. Graphic elements are mostly JPG and GIF, which all browsers render relatively well.

As for Flash: many people seem to feel that Flash is a necessary part of any site. This is not so; Flash is excellent for decoration and demonstration, but it makes for tedious and frustrating navigation. I use Flash willingly but sparingly.

I have nothing against JavaScript, PERL, or scripting in general, either; I use scripts to varying extents in the client sites I list on the web design page--The New Colonist makes extravagant use of them--but I built this site for myself, and I wanted it to be as spare and serene, and yet as energetic, as a Zen garden. I hope I have come close to achieving that.
