Photography grows every day; it is a technology-based craft--and always has been. As such, it both benefits and suffers from changes in not just technology but the marketing of technology. I am expert in both chemical and digital imaging, and, because of my deep involvement in the retail realm of photography, I also know what you can get and what you can't. This includes suppliers of both materials and skills in traditional processes dating all the way back to the daguerreotype and the collodion and platinotype processes, as well as cutting-edge digital technique. My own expertise is deepest in classic black-and-white photographic processes and perceptions and digital photo capture and editing, but if you need a variant or antique look of the uttermost authenticity, I can either do it for you, show you how to do it yourself, or connect you with someone who can.
I provide the following consulting or instructional services directly:
Black & White Photography
Exposure & development of the negative, basic to advanced b&w printing, Zone System, all film camera systems.
Capabilities and limitations; capture, transfer, & manipulation; printing & presentation.
Protection & preservation of both chemical and digital images and data.
Perception, Philosophy, and Aesthetics
What is a photograph? What is a photograph for? The relationship between perception and product, intention and artifact; the history of photography.
